Shown in the Weekend Services @ South Hills Church, Corona, CA on the weekend of 8/30/09.
After one year of becoming a wing of South Hills’ church Technical
Arts department, NexGen Tech Arts was finally able to move up to the
“big leagues” and work with the same gear as the weekend service
teams, which is typically operated by older and more experienced
members.
Under the leadership of Van Metschke, the NexGen Tech team started out with three people,
then 7, and has a total of 30 techs and production assistants today.
Before this, the teams of teenagers and young adults would hold their
services in Avenue A or “Kidzone” as it is known on the weekends.
Consisting of a soundboard, powerpoint, and limited sound channels,
each week the team would faithfully serve the youth group and try and
come up with creative ways to enhance the service.
Under the new leadership of Chris Harrell, the team went through a few months
of adapting as the vision for the youth group was about to be unfold.
Although things seemed dull from a technical aspect for a few months
while low key services were being held, the end result was always in
mind.
The group of techs got a taste of the end result when on August 18,
2009 they got a taste of all the technical possibilities in their new
location. The service had expanded so much that the group was able to
hold services in the main auditorium where they had the opportunity to
use professional gear that was never before accessed by the youth
ministry.
Just the beginning of what the new NexGen service is going to look like.

A big shout out to Zach M, Lexie M, Asher H, Cory P, Brian Robertson and
Wes Goins for starting us off on the right foot last night!
And a special thanks to Van Metschke and Marvin Sinson, without your
leadership and example, this would not have been possible.
The Tech Arts Fiesta was a blast. We had a great time of food (Wingstop Rocks, thanks Kevin) and hang time. We honored some of our techs for going above and beyond: Stewart-South Campus Set up, David- Eastvale FOH, John- Main St Video, and Dave B- I.T. I also shared our vision for Tech arts out to 2011.
It was an awesome time. Great seeing everyone in one place. If you missed it, make sure you come to the next one.
